Campsite Review: McGreever Recreational Grounds, Thallon

Row of Vans at Sunset at Goomeri Caravan & Bush Camp

Next to the grain silos, we found a relaxed free camping area located at the McGeever Recreational Grounds, which includes a Dump Point, electric BBQ, all-weather surface and toilets and showers.

Camping at the McGreever Recreational Grounds was lovely, with camping fees set at a modest $10 per night for powered sites, which include access to water it was easy to set up with a full view of the Grain Art Silos. There was also Unpowered sites are available free of charge, making it an affordable option for budget-conscious travelers however, because it was very hot when we were there, the $10 donation fee was well worth it to be able to stay cool during the heat of the day.

Thallon: A Tranquil Oasis in the Heart of Queensland's Outback

Tucked away in the vast expanse of Queensland's outback, I found the charming town of Thallon, where history, art, and natural beauty come together to create an unforgettable experience.

At the heart of Thallon, the McGreever Recreational Grounds offered me a serene escape amidst picturesque landscapes and the iconic Grain Silos. As night fell, the silos lit up, casting a mesmerizing glow that was visible from the campground, adding to the enchantment of the surroundings. No visit to Thallon would have been complete without marveling at the town's iconic Grain Silos, adorned with stunning murals depicting the region's rich agricultural heritage. These towering silos, transformed into vibrant works of art by renowned artists, stand as a testament to the town's resilience and creativity.

My visit wouldn't have been the same without stopping by the historic Francis Hotel, a beloved local establishment known for its warm hospitality and mouth watering cuisine. Whether indulging in hearty pub fare or savoring a cold beverage on the veranda, the Francis Hotel's rustic charm and timeless appeal left me completely charmed.

On my way to the hotel, I was treated to a visual feast of iconic ironwork art features lining the road, showcasing the town's unique character and creative spirit.

Nearby, the William the Wombat statue stood as a whimsical tribute to the town's beloved mascot, adding to the charm of Thallon's streetscape.

For those seeking further exploration, the Thallon Information Centre offers invaluable insights into the town's history and attractions, ensuring a truly enriching experience for all who visit Thallon.

Thallon may be a small town, but its allure is undeniable, offering visitors a chance to reconnect with nature, history, and the true essence of the Australian outback.

Would I stay there again?  YES! I most certainly will.
